Mark Shuttleworth, the CEO of Canonical, has announced that Ubuntu 16.10 will be dubbed Yakkety Yak:
“Yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yak. Naturally,”
As you may know, the code names for Ubuntu systems need to respect a certain pattern: they are often formed by “Adjective Animal” and they go in alphabetical order. Example: P – Precise Pangolin, Q – Quantal Quetzal, R – Raring Ringtail, S – Saucy Salamander, T – Trusty Tahr, U – Utopic Unicorn, V – Vivid Vervet, W – Wily Werewolf and now X – Xenial Xerus.
After the release of Ubuntu Ubuntu 4.10 Warty Warthog (the first Ubuntu system), Canonical has jumped to the letter B for the systems’ code names and respected the rule even since.
Also, the release schedule for Ubuntu 16.10 has been released:
- June 30th – Ubuntu 16.10 Alpha 1
- July 28th – Ubuntu 16.10 Alpha 2
- August 25th – Ubuntu 16.10 Beta 1
- September 22nd – Ubuntu 16.10 Final Beta
- October 20th – the Final version of Ubuntu 16.10
