As you may know, Ubuntu Touch is still sharing some code with Android, but the developers intend to upgrade them in a couple of months.
The developers are working hard at implementing the latest drivers on Ubuntu Touch, the main problem being that the manufacturers do not usually develop software for Linux, so Mark Shuttleworth needs to accept that Ubuntu Touch will still keep the Android drivers.
The new changes will be under the hood only and won’t get noticed by the end users. This is what the Ubuntu Touch developer, Pat McGowan said in a recent Q&A session:
“The devices will also have to switch. The only bits of Android they still use is the kernel version and device drivers. The barrier is that the vendors have to implement drivers for native Linux. The vendors do not want to implement twice,”
